Darby Buckingham was an unlikely candidate for frontier life. From his round-toed shoes to his derby hat, he was a man of culture, a creature of comfort, who liked his gourmet restaurants and expensive cigars. The short, stocky New Yorker made a fortune writing dime novels about the old west. Now he was out west to do some research for his next novel, little suspecting that he would be joining sheriff Zeb Cather in a manhunt for the ruthless Raton Brothers, learning firsthand about frontier justice and frontier heroism.

Darby Buckingham, with his derby hat, is a successful dime novelist living in New York. He goes to Wyoming to learn about frontier justice and heroism first hand. Gene Engene narrates this Western with wonderful clarity and pacing. Engene differentiates the characters with dialects and accents that enhance the narrative and add style and authenticity to the story. The drama is heightened by feverish pacing. Western listeners will relish this trip back to yesteryear when the bad guys are cowardly and the good guy wears a derby! S.C.A. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
