      Gr 3-5-Six short chapters relate the story of the pirate's grisly demise. Following a picture introduction to the characters, the book begins in the middle of the action with young Jacob saving Blackbeard's life by incorrectly gauging the water level of the harbor, causing the ship chasing the pirates to run aground. The youth regrets his decision as soon as Blackbeard's ship opens fire on his rowboat. Full-color illustrations appear on every spread. A historical essay, discussion questions, and writing prompts round out the book and make it more teachable.
